Fishin Report

See you in May Report

9/19/08 Report
The fall run has begun!!! ... there has been a huge amount of big fish caught the past few days. Some weighing is at 48 pounds. Today the fish have been biting all morning and are still being caught. All types of fishing techniques are working well, from bait to jigs. Top water has been producing some good size fish but mainly in the morning. Bait and jigs have been working well throughout the whole day. - G

8/19/08 Report
The cooler weather is bringing more bass into the canal as well as some huge sized blues. Bait fishing seems to be the most successful way to land a good size fish though working with that current takes some time to master. So be prepared and take plenty of hooks and sinkers. The weekend is looking good as far as weather and tides go. Morning and evenings still being the best time to land some keepers. The fall migration is about to start in the next few days as we see a noticable increase of stripers coming through. - G

8/10/08 Report
The weekend was a little slow with few reports of keepers, though as we reviewed last years biggest catches and the dates it was clear this is the calm before the storm. Last year the giants began their fall migration from mid August into October. This time of year is when bait fishing becomes more effective and we start seeing the 50+ inch fish. This week the tides will start lining up for sunrise and sunset around mid week making some good conditions. - G

8/5/08 Report
The bait have returned into the canal this week with the Stripers following closely behind. We saw a lot of action in the mornings with fish weighing up to 50 Lbs being caught on top water and jigs. This weekend is also looking good with the turn of the tides lining up well for morning and evening fishing. -GT

7/30/08 Report
The latest report says the canal was decent yesterday but you had to work for it. The last rain storm seems to have changed things around for the worse. Historically this coming week is a great week for fish. Last year this time big fish showed up all over the canal with Bonito and false albacore mixed in. The tides for this weekend should hold some promise for early risers catching the tide. Good luck and make sure to tell us about the big ones.

7/25/08 Report
Despite the stormy weather there are still plenty of fish around with keepers up to 40 inches in length caught last night and this morning.

7/23/08 Report

Morning - The fish are still here and been biting well, both night and day. Most effective methods are swimming lures, rubber shads, jigging and top water. There are some giants around but most are shoolies with a few small keepers in between. Plenty of action everywhere along the canal. - GT

Evening - What an amazing season!!! It's almost the end of July and the fish are still everywhere. This evening there were many keepers caught ... some almost 50 inches ... yes, 50 inches!!! Most popular methods were jigging and top water. - GT

7/20/08 Report

Seeing some nice fish caught all weekend … sunrise and after dark producing the biggest keepers. With the strong winds this evening a 9inch rubber shad seemed to be the most effective method for landing the big ones. Congratulations to Irish Mike who caught a fat 46 incher this evening! The storm didn’t seem to effect the fish today and may bring some much needed cool weather this week for more great fishing. Confirmed sightings of bait fish throughout the canal today which help continue making this year one of the best striped bass seasons in decades. - GT

7/18/08 Report

Day - Today was just as good as yesterday with lots of action along most of the canal. Confirmed sightings of large schools of baitfish, including Mackerel, Bunkers, Pogies and Sand Eels ensure the bass fishing will stay good right into the weekend. Jigging and top water lures still seem to be the most effective methods. Best times to fish tomorrow are 4am to 7am, 10:30am to 1pm, 4pm to 7pm and 10pm to 1am.  - GT
